A/Prof Leo Donnan
Associate Professor Leo Donnan is the Lead Principal Investigator of the Victorian hip dysplasia registry (VicHip) and an Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hip dysplasia.
Leo was the driving force behind the creation of Melbourne's first hip dysplasia registry, now known as VicHip. Its mission is to help deliver the best care and treatment outcomes for people with hip dysplasia.
"VicHip provides a platform to address the current gaps in knowledge of hip dysplasia, and we are working towards growing rich data and high-quality evidence for rapid translation into clinical practice in a range of clinical settings,” said A/Prof Leo Donnan.
Research and medical education have always been an important part of Leo’s surgical practice. He is interested in the big questions about health and healthcare and how large registry data can help answer them. Leo has published about the use of health registries and their enormous value to epidemiology and clinical practice, providing an opportunity to enhance patient care globally.
Leo was also instrumental in developing innovative 3D animated teaching programs for clinicians involved in hip dysplasia screening to aid early diagnosis and referral, as well as patient education videos such as safe swaddling methods. Leo received Victorian Health Care Awards for these excellent resources.
