Mr Richard Angliss
Mr Richard Angliss is a Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon and Principal Investigator of the Victorian hip dysplasia registry (VicHip) for the Geelong and Victorian southwest regions across Barwon Health. He has worked extensively with the Paediatric Orthopaedic unit on education projects related to hip dysplasia and brings to VicHip expertise in data collection and analysis in this condition.
Richard's passion for early detection and effective screening of hip dysplasia is motivated by the positive outcomes of treatment if the condition is detected early enough.

Experience
Richard Angliss is a Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon who has been working in Geelong and the Victorian South-west since 1997. In 1995-96, he completed postgraduate training in Paediatric Orthopaedics in Oxford, UK, where he published research on long-term outcomes in the surgical treatment of hip dysplasia. During this fellowship, he created the structures for community-based Hip Dysplasia screening across a regional population, utilising risk factor assessment and ultrasound imaging. When he returned to Australia in 1997, he introduced this process to the Geelong region.
The Geelong Hip Dysplasia Screening Clinic expanded over the next 26 years to include physiotherapy clinician-led clinics, offshoot services in the Ballarat and Warrnambool communities, clinician education workshops, and community awareness activities. The service remains the primary avenue for the detection and treatment of hip dysplasia in the Geelong region.
Richard is also active in the management of adult hip conditions with particular experience in arthroplasty of the hip in young adults.
