Challenges in detection
We're exploring various research questions, including how to better identify children who may be missed by the current screening process. In this video, A/Prof Donnan highlights the challenge of detecting hip dysplasia in children who show no obvious signs or symptoms.
He explains, "We have a process of selective (ultrasound) screening in Victoria" which means that "more than 50 per cent of children with hip dysplasia will not be detected."
This underscores the importance of finding better ways to screen for hip dysplasia when there are no clear clinical signs.
